Who we are?
Both outdoor enthusiasts and particularly fond of canoeing and camping, we have been preparing for this great voyage for several months. Denis, age 49, works at Laval University as an engineer and has been canoeing and camping for over 25 years. Myriam, 18, has been wandering rivers since she was very young.
Last year, during a geography course, Myriam got the idea of traveling down the Mississippi by canoe. After discussing the project with her father, they both decided to plan the expedition for the summer of 2006 after Myriam’s first year of junior college. This will allow plenty of time for preparation. It will take between 2 ½ and 3 months to reach the Gulf of Mexico after setting out from Lake Michigan.
The itinerary is basically the same as the one chosen by Louis Jolliet in 1673 while searching out a passage to China. Louis Jolliet is from Quebec just like us. During our journey, technology will allow us to remain in contact with our family and partners. Before we leave, we will receive expert advice from health specialists. When we return, we will be giving talks on our expedition on the waters of the Mississippi.
